gory glory

hope & glory

Hope & Glory by Simon Birch: this is another large scale multi-media exhibition similar to that of Chanel Mobile Art and Vivienne Westwood some years ago which I could recall and relate. What seems to be adding a bit more to the picture is that Simon is considered to be HK based artist coz he has chosen to live in HK since 1997, and I would somehow have more ‘connection’ or emotions towards his work. I have been reading more about his background and profile, and realized that he has a seen a lot and now expressing what his life has granted him through the lens of art. Simon. In 2008, Simon was diagnosed with NK-T-cell lymphoma – a very rare type of cancer, during the time when his career was blooming in fuller momentum, and he has to battle that with all sorts of treatments. Now after rounds of western, eastern therapy and of certainly the core type is the chemo, he has survived it and come back stronger and more mature. The very fine line reaching death is not easy but has opened his eyes in another deeper perspective and he is gracious for every single thing he has in hands.
Every single person is like this, we don’t really know what we have until we lose them. I just hope that through Simon’s hard effort, HK will be able to help rising artists and groups to develop projects for the society and it’s own benefit. We need more daring souls to bring all of us further and higher.
