Radio station is now broadcasting a program which the host is asking narrating what people nowadays often chat about when they meet: rising rent, rising property prices, inflation, marriage, children, work etc. All these are very realistic and materialistic also, but what about our dreams? The host speaking has just done a volunteer program in Cambodia to help kids and they give them a question to think: What is your dream. This is so true, we work at least 8 hours a day, and after work, we still talk about work and the bits and pieces about the practical side of our lives – as days move on, we forget about our dreams. I just saw a young friend of mine, nearly 2 years ago, she picked up Wing Chun – a type of Chinese martial art, and when I asked about that, she told me she is still doing it, and told me she even won a gold medal in a contest like 2 months ago?! That is impressive, but I really see her passion and sparkle in her eyes. She told me it’s not easy coz it’s hard to start ‘late’ but she still love it. I feel really inspired by her and her dedication and reminds me that we could have led such a different life if we are willing to! Use God’s gifts, guys!

awesome mistake?

Colleague sent me an online interview (click here to read the Chinese interview) about how Zappos – an online shoe selling site does recruitment. Zappos is not just another website, it’s the largest online shoe site so far since 1999 and managed to be acquired by Amazon for US$1.2billion. The interview is about what they would ask candidates when they apply to join Zappos. All of them are not ordinary ones like what is your strength and weaknesses type but creative ones such as “Today is your first day of work, your task is to make the interview process more interesting – what would you do?”. The other one I really like is “What is the biggest most awesome mistake you have ever done? Why is it so good?” Not to mention at a job interview, it’s hard to suddenly name a life-long lesson, but when I am given the moments to delve further – what is the biggest mistake I have done ever – which makes me wiser and better? If we could identify this experience, we would thus understand God has arranged things to happen in our lives to make us better, to make us the person we currently are, and what you see right now is only a preparation phase for the things that you would face. If you are very healthy now, your body is trained to help face aging better? If you are going through heart-torn time, you will be able to taste liberty later on and if you are lost right now, you would realize how it feels when you could stand firm in the shore soon!

i dare, therefore i am

It’s really interesting that I was speaking to a new design agency which is recruiting people to join them, it’s a start-up here as they have presence in Europe, but not in Asia. I wasn’t really looking for a new job at all but recruitment firm got in touch with me. And I just don’t think turning down opportunities too early is wise and I took all the steps to update my CV, speaking to the head-hunt, and then even meeting the studio owner. I am left facing a dilemma on how to evaluate situations and offers, it’s really tough. One thing I want to gain stability and security & I love my current work, the other, I know chances don’t come by easily, if I don’t dare to take it up, someone would and those may not return to you at all, again. It’s like God always gives us chances and possibilities, but do we take them up or are we feeling too comfy staying where we are? Are we lazy or paranoid? If I know I only have a few days of time to live here on earth, I am sure I would go crazy trying as many things as possible before the timer ticks. But how do I know how much longer could I live, so how much risk could we take? Maybe a lot….it’s just a matter of choice.

choose love not fear

Young friend spoke to me and shared her views about life, work and love in general over a warm dinner. Her latest goal is to apply working visa holiday in Europe, and now application is under review and she could be getting the visa any time now. I was thrilled to hear her updates and plan to find her when she gets there so i can witness her speaking like a French and introduce me to more interesting food other than croissant. When i asked about how those dates she has here in HK would turn out to be, she hesitates and told me she got really worried to love again coz she failed before. I looked at her wide eyes opened and said where is that brave person i see daily? and i realized she is scared that she is not going to receive what she would expect to receive. i ain’t any love expert at all, but i just told her she could not look for reciprocal love in that sense. if we all do, no one is going to give out anything in this world anymore. just like Jesus has sacrificed himself for us all, he just do it for us and knowing we wouldn’t return Him the same level of love, who could do that at all? but He believes. and I believe, I believe there is love and we just need more courage to break the chains and God will be on our side to lift us higher.

one step closer

am sure many of you guys know that i m heading out to mongolia soon for a home building project in Darhkan. my team had the first pre-trip meeting the weekend! we were going through the itinerary, sharing tips with those who did similar projects before, allocating different tasks etc etc. we had a team of 8 and i got to know another 5 people whom i’ve never seen! it’s sooo interesting the group activity as we are sharing the same goal and interest! we had fun and laughter! i m sooo glad that i take up this invitation from my friend without being hindered by trivial thoughts such feeling uneasy becoz i don’t know the people, becoz the location is far, becoz the project nature could be deadly exhausting. i just go becoz i know God will take care of me and if i don’t accept God’s arrangement but remaining hesitant and non-daring, God cannot open up my life. As per my pastor’s sermon this Sunday says, it’s really a matter of choice.

not only a food TV series

last night, during the time when it’s showing my mom’s favorite food TV show “So Far So Good”…i thought i heard something strange?! it’s not about food!!! i heard from the living room, this TV host Ah So was actually quoting Psalms 23 during the TV show!! [I was listening only in my room] then i dashed out to the living room and saw the next thing showing she introduced an old man who did not have a chance when he was young and only learn to write with his hand / water and the soil on the ground…and nowadays, his house is full of his calligraphy – the master piece look-like ones all hanging on his wall! and he is a pious christian today, and he dedicated his gifted calligraphy skills writing out the bible phrase…such as the Psalms! i m astonished by how much this christian TV host is willing to bring all the non-believers the news and words of God. in way that are interesting and gentle! At the end, i asked my mom if she knows the host is a christian…she cutely rolled her eye and said “yes i know and she is like you!” HAHAHA!

take charge of change

had dinner with best mate and she told me about her future plan: establishing some kind of education business with a few other people. interesting how she told me there are a lot of uncertainties ahead of this opportunities and she has not a lot of fear or worries nowadays! if it was like a few years ago..she would not have done it at all. it happened another v good friend also is leaving her company which she has joined for life…like nearly 2 decades i reckon?! and taking up another role in a new environment. she is not fearful as well now…coz they both told me God will take care of the rest, as long as they take up the 1st step to step OUT of the comfort zone. nothing comes in easy, but if they dedicate their attempt 7 sincerity, God will do the rest! those are real life testimonial indeed.
