world AIDS day

Today is the World AIDS Day, the day to raise awareness about the disease which has never ceased to kill people in different parts of the world. You probably could find this infection quite distant as HK got affected by drugs and alcohol in a relatively higher degree than foreign countries. And it seems there aren’t much you could do about it, but I personally have an experience which does not limit to AIDS. I studied in San Francisco before and that city carries one of the highest population of homosexual people and thus also implies one of the breeding place of AIDS. I once saw on a TV and a guy sat there saying that he was suffering from AIDS and was dying, but he is trying to be on screen because he wants to tell everyone he has AIDS, he is gay and all those people whom he had sexual relationship before to go test themselves. And my friend next to me stoned, he was terrified coz he was the guy’s partner before. From there onwards, I pacified my friend and accompanied him to the clinic for blood test and waiting for result. The process is not long, but it feels like ages for someone in fear. We can always help people around us by just giving them a pat on the shoulder, and something about AIDS reminds me of the leper or the prostitute in the old days of Bible, why? Coz they are the unwelcome crowd and where discrimination goes. Jesus always reaches out to the needy ones especially the super poor ones just like these people I mentioned. Just like how He visits Simon the leper when He was in Bethany. How amazing to learn that when in during those days, leper is being avoided but Jesus chooses to be with them.

aid the AIDS

Was reading an interview article which the headline says “Positive Thinking” It’s about the diagnosis of HIV/AIDS has stepped into its 30th years, and how people have survived this disease sharing their experiences. An excerpt says: “People in Britain primarily associate HIV with gay men and Africans (whether living in Africa or immigrants into this country). Neither can be homogenised into a group, but they’re treated that way by mainstream British society. The current most potent stereotype for gay men is someone who’s creative, urbane, professional and financially solvent. This view of gays (now at least some 40 years old) has helped to cement the idea that gay men adopt hedonistic lifestyles, which naturally lead on to the contraction of HIV.”  This short paragraph hints some sad things about human nature that we are discriminating, judgmental and quite blind and unloving. Many probably feel that HIV/AIDS is some kind of punishment from above for those who did not treat their lives properly with diligence and respect. And base on this judgment, we become harsh. Maybe a lot of times, we thought we are God when we are in front of those are different from us, coz we feel we are better!? In fact, we are just the same, just we are not perfect in a different way.

Rainbow Nation

Yesterday I have sent out a mail inviting people to sign up for a petition to protect lesbians against ‘corrective rape’ in South Africa. The idea is people rape lesbians to make them straight. A few stunning facts about South Africa I have to share with you:

  • The place is often referred as Rainbow Nation for its post-apartheid efforts to protect against discrimination.
  • It was the first country to constitutionally protect citizens from discrimination based on sexuality.
  • It is the rape capital of the world. A South African girl born today is more likely to be raped than she is to learn to read

I feel awfully lucky that I was born and raised in a place where human rights and laws & enforcement actually exist and under implementation. There are too many inequalities in this world and so often, it’s happening because of the evil thoughts and nature of human being. But I believe everything happens for a reason as that is part of God’s plan for the bigger mankind and we just have to learn the lessons and have faith in believing that God will somehow some ways reach out to the marginalized population. Keep your eyes stay on the horizon of the bigger world! The best is yet to come.

breed matters?

colleague showed me a deadly cute photo of her niece’s new puppy, she’s a bull dog and all the fold of her skin is pink and made me feel like she is a big huggable towel. I quickly ask if she is an adoption! she replies: “no…they are dog snob! it’s a breed”.  i am not a pet owner and never have raised any dog or cat, except rabbit, chick, turtle and bird.  i can never imagine why people have to do breeding to ensure the dog is ‘pure’ by their definition or interpretation with a certificate as proof. if human being are ‘bred’ in that manner, what will our world be like?! (I know the difference is that we are human and they are animals) Do we love their breed (cert) more or the dogs/cats themselves in their current form? Many of my friends adopt animals when they have a chance to raise one & never leave them till their last day, i love them for their generosity & genuine love for animals. It’s their true love for animals that make them unconditional!
God has given us the heart to feel and to love!
