I was raised in the condition that my mom would have helper to look after me and my sisters. Almost throughout my life, I have the privilege of getting helper from the Philippines or Indonesia to take care of our daily lives. Recently, there is a controversy whether to give all these heroes of HK families the right to reside in HK bearing the associated rights and benefits or not. Helpers have not been always treated perfectly equal as very often they are considered to be less important for many reasons such as their nationalities or the roles they are taking up. Thus giving them further rights or benefits on top of their payroll has faced lots of objections and noise in the society. This is a very interesting scenario even for individual basis, e.g some friends could appear very liberal or patient when they comment on other people’s situations, but things happen to them, they could become agitated and much less accommodating because it boils down to their own personal interests. My last Sunday sermon is about generosity. This relates me to think about the domestic helper issue, if we should grant them the right, seems like the topic is self-explanatory and tells us the direction to do so? But I don’t have an answer, will let God lead us how to move our course in this situation.
Daily Quote
Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.
Deuteronomy 15:10
I pray to God that we could use our judgment to act generosity as much as we could.
