Goodbye Chuck

I have not heard from Chuck Colson for a while as I subscribe to his commentary at Prison Fellowship and the Worldview a long time ago. Only on Sunday night at a radio channel I was tuning in to I heard the host giving her tribute to Chuck Colson hence I realize Chuck has passed away. Chuck is well known for being the hatchet of the President Nixon back in the 70s. I was drawn by his dedication for the people in the prison and soon after once I paid a visit to the people in prison here in HK, I don’t know how I stumbled upon Chuck’s website and sign up for his update thereafter. Getting close to prisoners is not easy not to mention physically there are a whole lot of barriers that prevent us from being physically accessible to this bunch of people, but more importantly these people have done things wrong and some have done super wrong things which a lot of people would not forgive and forget. I could recall during those time when I was sitting in front of these guys, they appear to be exactly the same as you and I, but their freedom is taken away. The most precious thing is taken away from them and it tells me that there is always a price for things we do. When situations seem bleak, God will be there for you, imagine when being locked inside a prison cell, how hopeful could one get? But it’s only God that can safe the desperate ones. When the prison mates were listening to how we preach about the Bible, when they listen attentively, you know there is a second chance given to these weak souls. I understand that because of this, Chuck has persisted and although now returned to the heavenly Father, He will continue to bless those guys behind bars.

You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.

one voice speaks all?

I saw from the local news yesterday about how some people reacted when the newly elected Chief Executive CY Leung went to visit some housing estates especially there was this complex  - Amoy Garden, which suffered badly from the SARS earlier in 2003, and the situation was chaotic. People flocked to see and trying to speak to CY and of course a lot of non-supporters try to get close to him trying to discourage him. And there is this guy Andrew To from the League of Social Democrats shot up and screamed at CY and threatened him with a plastic sword and put that ‘weapon’ next to his neck and openly rebuked CY. When I saw the photo, I was thinking: What is this guy doing? I personally have worries about CY Leung being in place as the Chief Executive and he could enact something unfavorable to HK’s democracy and citizen’s freedom. And I know there are things that we need to fight if we want to get such as social liberty. But fighting in a way like this guy does I truly believe is uncivilized and almost barbaric. Andrew claims to be a Catholic and I wonder how much value from the Bible he sees that motivates him to  do what he is doing. I heard from the radio there are other people who are totally mad and upset about what Andrew did as he said he is representing the public which is not true. So many of us do not want his voice and representation. It’s sad that HK seems to be regressing in terms of our social IQ and EQ and we need God and His Holy Spirit’s power to guide us along to battle something big about the society and the world in general.

podcast rocks

I was starring at my iPhone yesterday morning…and I said, it’s such a waste of Steve’s work if you only use his invention for speaking and whatsapp…and checking emails. So i started to look at podcast (sorry nothing too exciting) and check out what’s there to listen, maybe something interesting would be available and let me hear something while I get ready to go to work in the morning…so it’s less boring when I mould my hair and fixing my brows etc! aHa! I downloaded Max Lucado (now I realize how to pronounce his last name! LOL) and I found Joyce Meyer. These two people I have always seen their names on bookshelf but don’t really bother to buy coz I simply couldn’t finish them…now I got to hear them and their messages struck me as it’s so much related to things happening during the day! It’s simply amazing when you try to keep the awareness about God and you will see it coz you allow it and choose to see them, and God will arrange things to be delivered at your doorstep if you just check that box saying you are willing to receive it. God will make it available when you are willing. One thing Joyce Meyer said in her podcast program is that, God will not force it on you, God gives you an option and He would only do it on free will.

I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, Lord, for it is good.

I pray to God that I will always choose Him!

flee follow free

Read an article from NY Times called “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant” (click here to read article) and reminds me of a self published book by a job applicant at my studio. This designer through his own connection and research, spent a year going around New York and interviewed illegal immigrants and photographed their portraits for his book. I starred at the hand-bound book and flipped each page seeing different faces mostly Asians/Chinese with their short stories and background next to their photos. It’s a very touching project and took more than time and patience, and I just don’t know how the designer got the trust of the interviewees to allow him to get that close speaking and even photoshooting. The short browse of the book already told me how desperate and hopless/hopeful these people are. They lost hope in their origin but feeling hopeful in the place where they hid themselves. It’s a matter of trust and faith. There were numerous occasions when people in Jesus times have to run here and there trying to save their lives – in those situations, there aren’t many things you can trust but God. Ai Wei Wei is finally released today and our sincere blessings to those who are fleeing for freedom, for human rights and a better place to live – wish they would find their way to seek God’s help and grace.

Daily Quote
The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

I pray to God that I will be grateful for all He has given me.

the moment to breaking free

It’s an exciting weekend coz the former Egypt leader Mubarak has finally stepped down after 30 years of rule. I saw from the headlines that Egypt was swarmed with protesters. I cannot imagine how joyful they were that moment when Mubarak submitted himself…that moment was historical and crazy! Break free the Egyptians!!! The wealth he has accumulated over the years, although being estimated only, ranged from US$70 billion to a couple billion is still scary sum of money, which originally belongs to the citizen of Egypt – Mubarak’s methodology is by transforming political capital into private equity. I was astounded by how greedy people could turn out to be, they lust for power and at the expense of the lives of a lot of innocent people. Greed has totally eaten up the genuine faithful bit of heart and conscience that should run in their mind. It’s a critical period for Egypt right now, they need an anchor and slowly build their future from scratch – someone needs to do some work right now. God will lead them out of this exile again & find it a leader.

Daily Quote
So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.” Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. He had him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command, and people shouted before him, “Make way!” Thus he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt.
Genesis 41:41-43

I pray to God that He brings peace to the land of Egypt & let this land be ruled with order!

reunited for another reason

Just 2 more days will hit Chinese New Year – one of the most important festive to Chinese! I was hanging around the flower market last night and sensed the joyful feeling the whole city is embracing…but on the other side of the world – numerous people are gathering together as well – united hoping to sustain happiness but in a much more tough manner – Egypt will be organizing the March of Millions Tuesday their time hoping to make President Mubarak to step down. This wave of independence is spreading like virus to other parts of the world such as Palestine, Jordan etc. It’s like seeing what happened in the Bible rehearsing the scene again. I cannot even visualize how it feels to be living in that part of the world. It’s shown on the TV station that a kid in HK just dumped an unopened instant noodle into a pot of boiling water and thought that is the way to prepare a bowl of noodle. I’ve been living in peace for all my life and I can’t even think how it would become when my freedom, basic human rights are taken away. Let’s pray that people from all over the world will one day experience the basic right that God has promised them.

Daily Quote
You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.
Psalm 86:5

I pray to God that we do not only think of our own needs but even those far away from us, pray for them, as we are one same family of God.

free flow form of fun

it’s a bit strange to be able to set up my own blog! it certainly feels like nothing special for all those who have been doing it for a long time…but i just started it.
it’s a start! it’s 200% my own space…it’s not like a company blog, when i write something, i have another 9 team-mates i have to be considerate about. it’s not like the room in my home, i have my mom next door…anything i do, i need to be watchful of how she thinks. it’s not like when you are in your car, you have other people’s lives you have to be careful about.  it’ s not like when you are in a hotel room with your partner, you have another soul to be mindful about.  inside this vacuum of space, it’s all mine.

it feels good to have something totally of YOUR own.
