Mama Day

I happened to have a very happy Mother’s Day because I took the morning off (I skipped Church!!! I m bad!) and went to a wet market to find some easy stuff to cook for mom. I guess my mom did not expect me to do this at all, and the outcome is great – not that the food is yum but mom is jolly. I cannot recall for how many years already I have not done something like this, I mean really do something for mom instead of just getting her a gift or pocket money. And I realize when I can get the person I love to be happy, that is very rewarding and delightful! Most of the time, we are willing to spend the effort for friends, partners etc but not so much for family! But they are actually the people who need it the most. My colleague said sometimes his mom would get into his room and pat on him, and he would move away coz he felt uneasy about the gesture. I told him coz his mom want to be close to him, and I recall there was once I hear from the radio in HK that a lot of mothers here in the city actually long for a kiss on the face and a hug from their children. I think my colleague’s mom must agree with the survey. Something I learn from my studio here is that we we always hug people as most of our clients or acquaintances are westerners and they always hug! This is actually oh so welcoming and before I am not so used to this but now I think it’s a great thing to do, and everyone in the city is so distant, and sometimes what we need is just a big hug and not just a firm shake. I kiss my mom and hug her all the time, and I hope you would do the same. It’s such an easy way to be Godly, coz warm embrace is encouraging and motivating, that is what the Bible teaches us.

weak is strong

I saw my ex-colleague by chance on TV over the weekend. She used to be a copywriter at ad agency and i almost could not recognize her coz she looked so different. The reason she was interviewed was her kind heart in raising many cats – both abused and healthy ones alike. There was this cat in her home with weird shoes she wore while she jumps here and there. My friend explained that is a special ‘shoe’ for this cat when she picked her up many years ago when she was still an tiny infant, she was left in the street with her two back legs completely slashed off bleeding like two tree twig. When the vet saw this poor little thing, they were about to put her down but the kitten’s eyes told them she wants to live disregarding the trauma her body was going through. So they kept her and work on her ‘cut’. She survived, and my friend was trying ways to facilitate her movement thus made this pair of shoes for the disabled kitty. Her highlights in the program is – the poor abused weak cats who want to live are way braver and stronger than those who maltreated the weak minorities. This echoed to a local news last week, a young school kid who jumped off the train track in HK with his hands holding the book “Life without Limits” by my favorite writer Nick Vujicic who is an extremely successful motivating speaker but also a limbless person by nature.. but I guess not everyone appreciates Nick’s thinking the way he expects. Life is perceived and treated so differently across forms – from animals to human. God is alarming us to love life the way He has wanted us to.

motivated suicide

people in HK lately might notice quite a number of news about people jumping off the buildings both in HK and China. There is this factory facing 12 continuous workers’ suicide since last Nov. One high school kid jumped off the school building in front of the whole school of more than 800 people leaving countless of them in terror and of course his family in traumatic mind.  It totally takes the greatest courage to make one person ‘motivated’ to end his/her life, especially making a public ‘announcement’ by jumping off the building. I feel terribly pity for these scenarios as I suspect that a key reason for these suicidal attempt is the victim’s intent to make someone guilty of their doing. How sad it is if they could actually spend their energy, heart and effort into doing something that bring themselves out of the spell? Let’s not set hatred in our chest for its somewhere that love and forgiveness shall be upheld!

stand firm to feel confirmed

yesterday got a person coming up to the studio – a white girl and when she rang our door i thought it’s just some of our colleague’s friend. but she said she came from Germany Stuttgart and looking to work at our studio as intern. she smiled so sincerely to pass me her portfolio disk and contact as she is trying to stay in HK for only a month. i spoke to her for a while and admire her sincerity and motivation. she is about to graduate and trying to work around key cities and studios she read about before she lands herself at THE place after experiencing as much as she could. i think it’s less common for people in HK to behave like that…hk younger ones are much less motivated and driven, it’s a pity to see this as i m from here as well, it’s the mentality that is quite different here in my home city. maybe we are too comfortable, well-fed and provided, we do not always have to stretch our capacity to get the things we really want.

one step closer

am sure many of you guys know that i m heading out to mongolia soon for a home building project in Darhkan. my team had the first pre-trip meeting the weekend! we were going through the itinerary, sharing tips with those who did similar projects before, allocating different tasks etc etc. we had a team of 8 and i got to know another 5 people whom i’ve never seen! it’s sooo interesting the group activity as we are sharing the same goal and interest! we had fun and laughter! i m sooo glad that i take up this invitation from my friend without being hindered by trivial thoughts such feeling uneasy becoz i don’t know the people, becoz the location is far, becoz the project nature could be deadly exhausting. i just go becoz i know God will take care of me and if i don’t accept God’s arrangement but remaining hesitant and non-daring, God cannot open up my life. As per my pastor’s sermon this Sunday says, it’s really a matter of choice.
