floors

I was waiting for team member at client’s building lift lobby as I was a bit early yesterday. The building is one of the newest in Causeway Bay and it looks pretty well managed as they have staff traffic-ing the people going in and out of the elevators, and I noticed a westerner was getting into the building with her wheeled-baggage which she pulled relaxingly and one of the staff quickly approached her and picked up her baggage! I was thinking, Wow! That is really what you call service as I thought the guy was gentleman and wanting to be helpful. Then after a few seconds, then I notice the foreigner raised her voice at the building staff and saying something “the floor is dead, we are people…” and pointing at the ground and get into the lift in a angry dissatisfied mode – then I realize the building prohibits people to have stuff rolling on their floor! I was shock and not 100% sure if the observation was right, then my team-mate strolled in, he’s a photographer, and he has a wheeled-luggage with him coz he was doing a photoshoot! WHAHAOO – immediately he’s being ‘advised’ to pick up his luggage and not wheeling into the elevator – since he is not a foreigner, he has not been ‘assisted’ like the foreign lady was and just been told to observe the rule. I cannot believe this – how can a building not allowed people to wheel on the floor – and their floor was marble with pattern like those Italian design not that they are carpeted or fragile, it’s quite ‘flowery’ and if you drop something you wouldn’t even find it!  Imagine if I wear my roller-skate and want to return to the office? Do I have to take off my ‘shoes’? I just don’t think this building is treating people right with the basic respect, empathy and generosity. I almost want to speak to the staff and explain or request that their rule is unreasonable, but I don’t want to be such a drama as the staff probably do not find the rule reasonable himself and he’s just a staff, I guess I have to practice Godly thoughts and manner in a more constructive way, maybe writing to the management?! Peace is the key now.

don’t shxt talk others

My studio is going through another ‘corporate exercise’ by getting an external strategist to do a company audit to review our studio’s structure, our positioning and general direction where it should turn to – just to be better, smarter and happier. The first move is to have internal workshop with different members and go through a Q&A session. Quite many of them we all would be asked by your Human Resource Department from time to time such as what goals do you have, does company match you on those level, if not, what could they do or what would you do…etc. It’s just alignment. But something the workshop asked me reminds me what is important to all of us and is something my Church keeps on reminding us to be – it’s to be encouraging. My studio is very encouraging, we encourage colleagues to develop passion projects, to try new things, to go to different venues and observe how other people do things, and if we fail – we fail, we just have to be smarter next time by not committing the same mistake second time. This character I have  picked up and notice it’s just essential wherever you go. I just received an EDM from a book author, Neil Strauss, and he wrote this last night to his subscribers: “Don’t Shxt Talk Others.  One of my favorite 30 day challenges was not saying negative things about myself and other people. If you do this, what you’ll most likely discover is that you either put down other people because you consider them competition or because you’re trying to justify your own beliefs or behaviors by getting someone else to agree with you. Both are pointless and destructive.” I would like to join him at his 30 day challenge sometime soon!

Delivering Happiness

I have just picked up a new book called Delivering Happiness and I always read who the book is dedicated to, and it’s interesting to see that it says “This book is dedicated to Ava Zech and all of the other aspiring entrepreneurs and business leaders of tomorrow. Happy eleventh birthday, Ava!” It’s a business book about Zappos, one of the most popular eCommerce site in the States. Who could Ava be and it does not sound like the author’s wife or family at all!? And I googled it and found out that Ava is an 11 year old 16th grade school kid who developed an idea for an organic dog tattoo product after noticing her English Labrador, Tank, was losing the black on the tip of his nose. Her dad did some research, and the duo began testing products on their dog. Zech’s advice to fellow entrepreneurs: “Really keep going at what you believe in and it can become possible. Start small and go big.” It’s amazing how this young girl came about into inspiring some other adults and even to the extent of moving a US$1 billion business. Children has always been one of the most admired people in our Bible, why? Because they are pure and simple at hearts. I am not good at dealing with children at all, and I am going to a mission trip working with small kids and that worry me a bit, coz most of the time, I feel that they drive me crazy. But God has something special for each one of us, the more you fear something, the more you would see that happening because He wants you to overcome those – I hope I would be fine with the kids in the coming trip!
Daily Quote
Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven
Matthew 18:3-4
I pray to God that I don’t worry but receive His blessings and grace and spread those to the needy ones.

Mormon or Christian?

President Barack Obama is known to have Mormon ancestry and I got to see from several occasions people are doubting if they should vote Obama because they are Christian. I have a dilemma here, I have doubt and wonder if I were an American, do I vote base on his religious belief or his work and ability? The obvious answer to a lot of people would definitely be judging by the criteria of his ability to rule and lead, but if a person does not have a his heart and head’s thoughts put together right with conscience and faith, how far could he go? Plus I have the thought, even when a Christian claims he or she as Christian, that does not imply they are the ‘model’ believers and they still could be a less capable person. Does religion play a role in this situation, it would be a pretty tough one to decide here. Let’s pray for all the Americans that they would be given a wise and righteous leader who could bring them peace, order and hope, and also to the rest of the world.
Daily Quote
I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
1 Corinthians 1:10
I pray to God that we won’t get divided but only united to walk the path He has planned for us.

master shifu

My married friend encounters some dark period of her marriage now, she is very superstitious and she always goes to see fortune teller when she feels lost and needing some kind of direction. Many years ago, almost 5, she brought me along to meet this master whom I believe should be at his 70s, and my role is to take notes of the conversation we had, and I still remember bits of things I witnessed that he said and those forecast have not been true till now – particularly about her relationship. And so happened she saw this ‘master’ again in person, and she quickly brought things up to this fortune teller about what he said has not happened! And he further looked into my friend’s ‘statistics’ meaning her birth date and time and palm etc. plus her husband’s details. Upon looking, he said that their numbers don’t match and things w0uld be difficult, the only thing is to be patient – if not a divorce is not surprising.  WOW! The amazing thing to me is not about the fortune teller’s quotes, it’s my friend. Up till today, she still is convinced of her future in the hands of a fortune teller. If I were to tell her that God tells her to be patient, would she believe and submit herself to God? People always turn to fung shui, fortune telling, tarot card, reiki, astrology when they are confused about certain things in their life, especially when the panic button is on, and fear drives people crazy. I never hear someone who feels completely peaceful after seeking these means to soothe their but they felt that something has done and situations could be fixed. They feel that they have done something I suppose. But the ultimate peace is missing.
Daily Quote
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

I pray to God that I will rely on Him for total trust and peace.

corporate gifts

Friend told me his recent work life about working with the mainland Chinese management people. My friend was arranging some event to work with the press and media people as his brand is relatively young and need PR for better exposure. And his president understands my friend is working on this area and simply ask if he can give these press people Red Packet, and my friend exclaimed it’s not acceptable in HK environment as this would be considered as bribe. Then his president tried to think further ways, and then suggest my friend to give cheques!!!! And my friend said that is just the same!! This is almost hysterical and then…this president suggests giving gold coins… I feel that this is so real yet funny but sad because a lot of Chinese people from mainland China, they do want to work and produce good things but they only thought of using money as lubricant to relationships and believe that will solve everything. There is not much love, reasoning and trust in the China environment as they were exploited of those things all along, and the fruits of God are things they do need to grow and groom if they want to evolve into becoming the leaders of the world, the best crop and breed.

Daily Quote
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

I pray to God that our world will be filled and empowered with the fruits of the Holy Spirit and God.

panda po

I saw Kung Fu Panda 2 lately, and one thing struck me in the movie is about Po’s (Kung Fu Panda) discovery of his Kung Fu talent. I don’t think what I am sharing right now would wipe your mood or interest in going to see this movie if you have not. Po realizes this key to ‘success’ or fulfillment is via inner peace. It’s super right about the importance of feeling peaceful. When you are at ease and there would be peace. How to feel at ease? Slow to anger, be sympathetic and selfless are all basic attributes to get closer to that peace at our heart. And those are exactly all the things that God teaches us to do. Read carefully the below quote – “God does not give to you as the world gives.” What the world gives are temporal only. All things around you, including yourself will fade eventually, but the grace He grants is eternal.

Daily Quote
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27

I pray to God that His Holy Spirit will keep me close to Him.

Postscript Quote
It gives me a deep comforting sense that things seen are temporal and things unseen are eternal.

anger therapy

I was having dinner with family when I notice the table next to us a lady arrived like a fireball, she was in fume holding a sleeping girl in her arms. The reason of her anger sounds like it’s from her confusion about where her family actually reserved for the dinner. Her family just queried why she did not call them for clarification, but all i saw was a super mad person and an extremely angry face, and that resulted in her other family members not feeling pleasant at the same time. Of course I don’t know the exact details, but I just notice people around me (including myself very often), we get very easily upset by trivial things all the time. Slow moving traffic, busy shuffling people in the street, people not responding in the ideal pace or mode we want etc…we all get so easily annoyed and disturbed! I tell myself all the time “Slow to anger”! Coz if I seriously understand and believe that God is in charge and I can only be submissive to His plans, i think I can cut down on being angry a little bit better. Remember if we don’t think we are any better than the other people, this humility might bring us more patience in dealing with others.

Daily Quote

Ephesians 4:26

I pray to God that we treat everyone with equality in our hearts.

an eye for an eye

All the news headlines keep reporting Osama Bin Laden’s related issues. The very first moment I first heard of the news at radio that Laden was dead, I immediately doubt if it’s true or not, coz no one could prove or verify this news. It’s one incident which I am thinking, what do we do from the Bible’s POV? I am not sure if we should simply kill the whole Laden family and declare that we have momentary peace. Does that help to soothe the pain of 911 which happened a decade ago? (I am sure a lot would say yes, but deep down does that really help?) Could we possibly just kidnap Laden (if we can break into his house anyway with the most lethal weapon) and bring him to sentence?! I am not sure, it’s just that I find it a bit ‘less civilised’ to just bomb the whole place and kill all the ‘bad’ guys and say Victory! I have strange feeling about this, of course, I am not American and have not been through that mind-blowing pain of 911. I saw a guy being interviewed said he has never got near the World Trade Center ever since the event happened…now he could step near the spot again. It’s a test to our mind and value when opposition and enemy is placed right in front of us.

Daily Quote
When a man finds his enemy, does he let him get away unharmed? May the Lord reward you well for the way you treated me today.
1 Samuel 24:19

I pray to God that He gives us forgiving heart and mind to face challenges.

piece of peace

Only 2 days to go before Christmas, a day which countless of us would celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, but many are also living under the worries of war attack.  Today, the South Korean military will begin a three-day naval drill in the Sea of Japan and scheduling an exercise by the army and air force about 30 miles from the North-South demilitarized zone. It’s really sad that during this time of the year when it’s nearly the BEST time to promote peace and love, some people resort this period to be the moment they can extend their human greed and lust at the expense of the other people’s futures and lives. Let’s pray for them and hoping peace be with them, ourselves.

Daily Quote
I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.
Numbers 6:26

I pray to seek God for peace of mind and peace of heart.

Postscript Quote
Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind…War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.
