I read from a local news that an amah helper of the casino king Stanley Ho some time ago has won the mark-6 lottery acquiring over HK$30,000,000, but that luck did not result her in resigning her job and gain an early retirement. But she continues to serve the Ho’s family submitting herself to the employer just hoping to create the best living environment with all her might. I am very moved by this news as from time to time, almost everyone who faces work difficulty would day-dream about winning a lottery and from there just go travel, shopping, doing nothing etc. But this elderly lady did not get blind by material and earthly possession but willing to consume herself with utmost loyalty and do what she could do best, I think she is very spiritual and even Godly coz she believes what she thinks is righteous and really executes with faith and passion. How many of us can do something similar? Even Christians should be inspired and motivate by non-Christians to become better children of God.

they look to you

It was in the news that a 14 year old kid at HK Secondary 2 school was trying to impress a girl whom he is interested in by giving out to other students HK$40,000 cash together with 8 sets of iPhone at school. This is almost hilarious to me and giving this a further thought, it’s highly the problem of the kid’s parents?! Most children imitate what their parents do and if this kid’s parents or grand parents (it’s reported that the grandma gave the kid the HK$40,000 cash as pocket money) do not provide what the kids gave away – he could not have done what he did. It’s really sad to see how some of our local children behave while what I saw the young ones in India are highly exploited with natural rights or basic provision. In Kolkata, I once asked 2 Indian school kids for direction to a museum, the 2 boys ultimately spent almost 2.5 hours bringing me to the destination, tour me around, explained to me the history and culture, at places where the street was really crowded, the 2 boys split up with one in front of us, and the other backing us up as the last person of the queue. At the end, when we tried to thank their hospitality by offering them a bottle of soda, they refuse and just smiled at us waving goodbye. Hope HK kids know how blessed they are and don’t abuse what they have!

which brand is the greatest?

Interbrand, world’s leading brand managing consultant firm, released the result of 2010 world’s global brand chart, and as usual Coca Cola ranks first while other names such as Google, IBM, Microsoft, Intel are fighting for the runner ups. While I was starring at the chart, i was wondering…how interesting and great if we can promote God to becoming a brand and spread the idea just like how all these commercial brands would do? We have a lot ‘consumers’ already, imagine believers of Christianity, Catholicism, Protestantism…adding up, we possibly have the highest number of ‘members’ or ‘users’ amongst all other things/brands?! The Bible has been the world’s best selling books translating in the most number of languages ever! Our ‘branches’ – churches are everywhere and iconic a lot of times – with these adding all up, we could be one of the most successful brand in the world! I don’t mean i want to create commercial value through the religion, but i was hoping if we can make God’s words or derivatives to spread as powerfully or vastly as a commercial brand, why not? Maybe this ‘brand’ I believe in has too many ‘adaptations’ that confuse people, if we could unite and repackage the whole campaign, the coverage will be massive. This is an ongoing process which we should all look into if we really believe in it?!  Have a blessed weekend!

beer for cheers

went to a concert last friday night which was sponsored by a beer brand, they featured my 2 favorite local bands: Mister & Rubberband. the event attracted thousands of people & it’s supposed to start at 8pm, but the band did not perform until 9.30pm, how did we kill time for those hours? the organizer arranged many pretty girls dressed sexily in every corner of the venue to play different kind of ‘beer games’ with the audience trying to be entertaining & boost beer consumption. originally i would say it’s quite smart/wise of the beer to sponsor these 2 quite ‘healthy’ image bands but when they arranged all the young girls to meander around the place that totally dragged the whole event’s proposition, it cheapen the whole thing. i think the Brand Manager is rather superficial in planning their promotions; to me due to their ignorance, a lot of the younger ones who cannot differentiate things clearly will start to get a wrong impression on the value of life!

after thought

family affairs

mom had a body scan [this scan should examine all the possible cancer cells that could exist in the body] last saturday and the result was released like around tuesday or wednesday. something was in the way that the doctor after getting her result has not been able to call her to tell her the findings. and i already know that … she is fine at that very moment. how many times when you have to do something important but somehow when you know it’s oK and thus you would procrastinate taking care of it?  and i know that my mom should and would be fine. it caught me by surprise that the nurse today on a friday noon from the clinic suddenly called me and asked for my mom, and i know it’s becoz the doctor wants to report findings, and i diverted them to call my mom at home instead, coz she would want to hear the results direct for sure. and later on, i checked on my mom and asked if she is hearing from doctor that she is fine. she said she is ok but some other parts are not doing as fine such as the bones and some of the blood vessels etc. we all age, and deterioration is 300% guarantee to be happening…i wonder if my mom is expecting herself to be functioning like i do?
later at night, when i was home, she kept on saying my elder sister is soo super happy about the results. i don’t know what to say coz i simply have never expected anything could happen to her, what could strike me? and when i ain’t shock, i behave more than calm? what else could i do? i know my mom is upset. but i could not act more than anything like what i am doing.  a bit later, my sister stepped in, and she is like kept on congratulating my mom about the results, and my mom broke into laughter like she is the winner of any kind of game for the last round, and she looked at me telling me that eldest sister is so happy about the results (and i should have done the very same, and not any less)! of course that line is dedicated to me – someone whom she finds totally disappointed or dissatisfied coz my reaction is like as if i am not her own offspring. but i could not behave any more different! i just know she would be fine, when it is matching my expectation, what could i do? i dunno, that is just in my blood. but then i thought of my 2nd sister. she has not returned to HKG for 2 long years already which is completely amazing to me coz that means she has not seen her own mother for a long period of time. BUT, through this case, i am starting to think she must be finding this very normal or acceptable or even right to her? but to me, it’s not quite the same way. Perception is so different.  Being righteous or not, being faithful or not, is soo super arbitrary?!
Maybe our conscience level will be the final umpire or judge?
God will judge it.
